Freistadt Fourth
In the 1840s, not long after the Pomeranian settlers had arrived in this area and founded Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church - Freistadt in the name of religious freedom, the first pastor decreed that the Fourth of July should be celebrated every year, and the congregation has followed that decree. An outdoor patriotic service begins at 10:00 a.m., and the picnic begins immediately after. Activities include music from the Freistadt Alte Kameraden Band, dancing by the Pommersche Tanzdeel Freistadt, and food. The Trinity Freistadt Historical Site, located on the same grounds, will have all 12 buildings, including a blacksmith and other demonstrations, open to visit. The traditional parade around the church property begins at 1:00 PM, followed immediately by a flag raising ceremony by the Mequon-Thiensville Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457. The perennial plant sale at the historic site will occur after the parade. The picnic continues to 4:30.
