Historical Society Presents 4th Annual WWII Living History Event
On Saturday, May 19, the Ozaukee County Historical Society and the 1st Allied Airborne Living History Group will transform Ozaukee County Pioneer Village into a European Village in the midst of World War II. The theme for this year’s event is “The Forgotten Front of Europe, the Mediterranean”. Italian soldier reenactors will join the close to two hundred living historians encamped in the village.
Attendees can expect to see vehicles, weaponry, uniforms and artifacts from the time. A French café, a USO canteen, morning and afternoon battles and many demonstrations throughout the day are all part of the event. On this one hundred year anniversary of WWI, there will be a tribute wall honoring those men from Ozaukee County who perished in that conflict. A special feature is the USO style dance in the Village Hall at 7:00PM on Saturday. With music from the forties, the fifteen piece orchestra Swing Nouveau, will entertain reenactors in uniform as well as the general public.
Food and beverage are available and parking is free. The event runs from 10AM to 10PM on Saturday. Admission on Saturday is $10 for adults, $8 for students (13-17) and Seniors and $5 for all veterans. World War II veterans and small children (12 and under) are free. Wrist bands will be provided, so the public can see the encampment during the day and come back for the dance in the evening. Pioneer Village is located at 4880 Highway I in the Town of Saukville.
May 18th Group and School tours are scheduled for Friday. Newthis year, the public is invited to preview the WWII encampment from 9:00AM to 2:00 PM. There will be structured stations where people can learn about the war, homefront and a soldier’s life. The cost is $5 per person.
