    About Us

Cozy & casual northwoods atmosphere featuring an eclectic lunch & dinner menu, specializing in planked salmon, BBQ ribs & Friday fish fry.

Things have changed radically at the old Joe and Elaine's in Thiensville. These days, it's a shiny, remodeled 125-seat restaurant called Remington's River Inn.

Remington's is a casual place with a North Woods feel. In addition to indoor seating, the restaurant has a deck that seats 25 and overlooks the Milwaukee River.

The Ollmans did major remodeling. In the center of the building, they've installed a stone grotto; the rear room has something of a log cabin feel with several windows that keep the room bright during the daylight hours.

The back room was always there, Amy Ollman said. ''Years ago, it was used as a bowling alley. We found four more sets of windows there.'' The couple then installed those windows in what now is a spacious dining room.

Remington's menu includes sandwiches, main-course salads and entrees. Planked salmon, barbecued ribs and paninis are all popular.

The most unusual part of the Northwoods look is the grotto - a tunnel, lined with rocks set in concrete that separates the bar area from the main dining room. When it was Joe and Elaine's Bar and Restaurant, the grotto leading to the deck and the river was a bowling alley. It took just 10 months for the Ollmans to turn the burger joint into a lodge with an attitude and a crowd-pleasing menu to boot.
