In the 1840s, not long after the settlers had arrived in this area and founded what is now Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church - Freistadt, the members decreed to celebrate the Fourth of July with a special church service on that day. The outdoor service commences at 10:00 am. Following the service this year, Wendy Sue Fluegge will inspire the attendees with her vocal arrangements. A lunch is available for purchase from the close of the church service until the end of the afternoon festivities at 4:00 PM. The traditional parade around the church property commences at 1:00 PM, followed immediately by a flag raising ceremony by the Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457, Mequon-Thiensville. The Freistadt Alte Kameraden Band will play throughout the day. Trinity-Freistadt, founded in 1839, is the oldest Lutheran Church in the State of Wisconsin and will have its historical area open on the Fourth.
